On the eve of my assuming the Command of the Assam Rifles , I extend my warm greetings to all ranks , civilians and the families of Assam Rifles. I am proud and elated to have been appointed as the Director General of this 'Elite Force'. The North East Region is on the threshold of economic, political, cultural and social change as the country progresses towards integration with ASEAN and APEC. We envisage the North East region acting as the gateway to increased socio-economic ties with ASEAN countries. Under such a scenario, Assam Rifles as 'SENTINELS OF THE NORTH EAST' will be required to play a pivotal role in fulfilling the aspirations of development of the North Eastern Region. The Force, therefore, needs to be fully geared for its present and impending responsibilities. I am sure that with your earnest dedication, sincerity and professionalism, we as a cohesive Force, would be able to achieve the same with great pride and elan. I am aware that the Assam Rifles has recently seen a paradigm shift in its operational responsibilities which requires large infrastructural development in the field of habitat, health, education and most importantly information Technology. It would be my endeavour to accelerate such infrastructural developments for the smooth functioning of the Force and improvement of quality of life of all ranks and their families. I am confident that with your diligence and dedication, together we shall create history. May God be with us in all our endeavours. JAI HIND
